Welcome! This series has officially launched and is all about the upcoming 5th generation Camaro LS, LT, and SS which will soon be released to prey on its' worthy competitors in the new horsepower wars. You can believe there will be a strong underpinning, on the Camaro, right off the bat, as there is a vast amount of experience and inventory to be had from the highly successful and vicious (to the opposition) Corvette and other models.

These articles on the new Camaro will be similar the "Corvette C6 C7 American Metal by Zorly" blog that we also put out, but this series will focus on the new Camaro and the history that led up to this 5th generation version that is set to release in 2009 as the 2010 model. Remember that Corvette engine modifications are almost entirely going to work in the Camaro as well.

As with the Corvette series, we also have a favorable view of the Camaro and its' ancestors, so this is a good place to be for those that appreciate the vehicle. There is no doubt, though, that are many awesome alternatives to the Camaro, and we are not here to rag on other vehicles. In fact, we appreciate the fact that strong competition makes for an even stronger competitor.

This Camaro series will be a once a week article concerning the new Chevrolet Camaro, and compliments our other Corvette blog, which is published once every weekday (Mon-Fri).

 

GM Camaro 5th generation Sports Muscle Car images

We will go from its' beginning, and do a history on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation models leading into the 5th generation which is the new Camaro. Once we get on the new or 5th generation Camaro we will cover anything of interest to the Modern Camaro Enthusiast, and will stick with what is new and current with the vehicle, also what the super reputable tuners, and aftermarket companies are doing to better the stock vehicles performance.

The first engines offered on the new model will be both a V6 and V8.

The V6 is a 217 cubic inch (3.6L) cranking out 300 ponies. It was rated as one of "Ward's 10 Best Engines" in 2008.

 

LS3 V8 marked for the Vette is same as SS Camaro motor pics

The V8 376 cubic inch (6.2L) will start off with 2 configurations. 1st is the L99 which is rated at 400 horsepower, and next is the famous LS3 rated at 422 h.p. on the SS. The LS3 is famous for its thick cylinder walls. Remember that the LS3 is closely related to C6 Corvette, and the ZR1 supercharged (or blown) version that kicks out well over 600 hp, so this baby is going to be a tuners delight.

There will be 2 versions of both the automatic and manual transmissions.

 

SS model 6L80 hydramatic Camaro transmission (auto) pictures

The automatic is a 6 speed TAPshift Hydra-Matic 6L50, and 6L80 for the SS. TAPshift transmission control allows you to shift the standard 6-speed automatic gearbox up or down a gear with just a touch of the paddles mounted on the steering wheel hub.

The 6 speed manual transmission also comes in 2 versions for the Camaro. An Alison Warner AY6, or a TR6060 for the SS (the 6060 is a strong tranny and is found in the likes of the Dodge Viper). View more details in this .pdf (Needs Adobe Acrobat, Foxit, or similar PDF viewer).
